The Nine O'Clock News: Call for artists

The Nine O’Clock News
An evening of topical performance
On Friday 3 October, Live At LICA will host this unique evening of one-off topical performance, curated by Daniel Bye. It will be a bit like a scratch night, except you can't possibly know what your show will be about yet. As well as possibly being scratchy, though, it will be urgent, thrilling and fierce in its responses to the week's events.
That's where you come in. Four companies or artists, alongside Daniel Bye, will each produce short (10-15 minute) pieces of performance responding to one or more of the week's news stories. We will all also collaborate on some shorter pieces. We will gather at Live At LICA (Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts) on the morning of Wed 1 October with a pile of newspapers, a few rooms to work in, and an Internet connection.
Sixty hours later, we will put on a show.
Live At LICA will provide:
Rehearsal space on Wed 1 Oct, Thur 2 Oct and Fri 3 Oct., refreshments, and technical support.
Mentoring, dramaturgy and support from Daniel Bye.
This professional development opportunity will enable artists to explore new ideas and ways of making in a dynamic and supportive context.
How can you possibly apply to be part of this without a time machine? It's simple. By 1st September, send us:
- No more than 300 words on what 10-15 minute piece you would have been working on for the previous 60 hours if we had met at 10am two days before
- No more than 300 words on you and your work
- Any visual and audio materials you can muster
Send all that as attachments to: [email protected]
Please note: in order to apply for this opportunity, you must be available in Lancaster on Wed 1 Oct, Thur 2 Oct and Fri 3 Oct.
We look forward to reading your submissions.
