Manchester Camerata: Serious Cabaret

With the rise of Nazism and Hitler’s Chancellorship in 1933, many musicians, artists and composers left Germany spreading their influence around the globe. This programme delves into the world of Berlin cabaret and political theatre between 1900-1933 and then beyond. Versatile soprano, Mary Carewe, joins Camerata principal players in a darkly entertaining programme featuring songs by Schoenberg, Zemlinksy, Spoliansky, Weill, Eisler, Hollaender and Gershwin, including ‘Falling in love again’, ‘Mack the Knife’, ‘Chuck out the men’, ‘Alone in a Big City’ and many more.

Mary Carewe, whose voice travels effortlessly from contemporary classical to Broadway and Hollywood, has a sweet-toned soprano with a dash of lemon and spice.
