Candoco Dance Co
This year, our summer school takes the form of an artist's lab, led by the fantastic dance company Candoco.
Almost two years after their hugely successful International Summer Lab at London’s Southbank Centre, Candoco is heading north with a new exciting, residential, Lab programme delivered in partnership with Live at LICA.
We are excited to invite you to join us at Creating in the Moment, a week-long intensive Lab for disabled and non-disabled dancers, performers and makers.
“This was my first time in an integrated setting and it has made me think a lot about what work I find interesting, how a choreographer approaches such a wide variety of people and how integrated dance somehow enriches artistic process. This week has made me question further, why people are so attached to ‘trad’ body aesthetics and the wisdom and fullness that’s gained by using a much larger spectrum of society in dance” – 2011 Lab participant
Held from Sunday 4 August until Saturday 10 August 2013, Creating in the Moment invites you to practically engage with Candoco’s working practice and to explore your own interests and impulses through improvisation.
The Lab is led by acclaimed choreographer Anouk Llaurens and Candoco’s dancers, with 15 selected participants joining 10 Candoco dancers and guest artists.
Anouk is best known in Europe for her work with various performance collectives, exploring performance practice and improvisation.
“The most successful outcome for me was the exchanges I had with other artists, sharing stories of our process/history and then exploring that on the floor. I made some great connections” – 2011 LAB participant.
The fee for the Lab is £395 and includes 6 nights accommodation in the beautiful grounds of Lancaster University and full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner). To take advantage of our early bird offer of £375 apply before Friday 26 April 2013.
The fee for artists who do not require accommodation is £250 and includes lunch and dinner. To take advantage of our early bird offer of £225 apply before Friday 26 April 2013.
